Found Kittens?
We can provide guidance about the kittens’ ages, care needs, and whether removing them from their environment is appropriate (for example: if they are sick or injured). We can also connect you with other local resources. In some cases, we can offer limited veterinary services while the kittens are outside to improve their welfare while they await rescue. If you found healthy kittens under 8 weeks old, please Leave Them Be!
Before You Pick Up the Kittens
In most cases, healthy kittens are not orphaned. Mother cats frequently leave their kittens alone while searching for food and will usually return once people leave the area.
Before intervening:
- Verify they are actually kittens. Small adult cats are commonly mistaken for kittens.
- Watch from a distance for several hours to see whether the mother returns.
- Do not remove healthy kittens simply because they are alone.
- Only intervene immediately if the kittens are cold, injured, covered in flies, or the mother is confirmed deceased.
